New Progressive Lenses

EGOist by Optovista is a range of personalized progressive lenses, with which one has the freedom to choose: individual style, the type of “visual approach” and the construction material.

1).Made-in-Italy technology, wide choice of materials, high personalization of the production process, are the three pluses of the progressive lenses EGOist, the top of the Optovista range.
Recent investments in the production field have allowed Optovista to be among the first Italian producers to adopt the new Free-Form technology, which enables the construction of custom-made progressive lenses, personalized according to one’s own “vision style”.
The exclusive calculation process called IST (Internal Subjective Technology) enables the lens assembly from the inside, which for the final consumer means a greater comfort; this is guaranteed also by the exact correspondence between the carried-out correction and the optometric prescription, integrated at the same time with the parameters of the chosen frame and of the way it is worn.

Many are the benefits offered by the progressive lenses EGOist:

1) Fist of all, visual benefits, since the procedure reduces lateral distortions and aberrations;

2) Functional benefits, as the applied technology enables the construction of a unique complex flexion on the inner surface, capable of correcting any sight imperfection, from myopia to hypermetrophy;

3) Aesthetic benefits, because of the slimming of the lens thickness; the final result is an immediate and total feeling of visual freedom.

The “subjective” version EGOistIdea, differing from EGOist for the semplyfied calculation, is included by Optovista in the same range -2007-2008 lenses catalog- as well .
In fact, only personal data of visual correction are required for EGOistIdea and this allows a greater simplicity in the transmission of one’s order, a flexibility in the recording of the parameters for the production, together with a more competitive catalog price.

Visual Performance in Sports Activities 1/14

Performance in Sports ActivitiesThe attention which vision specialists, sports psychologists, coaches and athletes themselves grant to the relation between visual performance and sports performance stems from the conviction that an improvement in the former brings benefit to the latter. However, vision must be considered as a rather complicated perceptive process, made up of a range of visual abilities which can be divided into visual-motor functions and perceptive processes.
When a tennis player, located in the back court, is waiting to hit the ball which has just been served from the other player, he must integrate several visual information.
In fact, it is not sufficient to “solve” the ball with respect to the background in the exact moment it is hit by the opponent, which is very similar to the task requested during the measurement of visual acuity (the well-known 10/10).
He must rather “solve” the ball in a dynamic and continuous way, guessing its speed and trajectory: this is more or less like the difference between taking the picture of a moving object, in an exact moment, and making a continuous shot.
Several visual abilities are required to achieve this skill: static and dynamic visual acuity, a good sensitiviness to contrast and a good perception of distance, an adequate ocular ability thanks to which the ball would not be “lost” and many other abilities, not least a good peripheral perception allowing the player to find out -as he keeps sight of the ball- whether the opponent is coming near to the net.
To sum up, to see in sports activities means to integrate a series of visual abilities in a significant visual input through which the right motor response is activated.
The analysis of the necessary visual abilities in sports in general and in different sports in particular is what this and the following articles on the visual performance in sports activities are about.

Vision Care

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Vision careVision care is an integrating part of the eye care. Prevention and maintenance in the eye care grant the patient a healthy vision.
For this reason, the model can be adopted as a general practice of basic and primary medical care, in which specific standards find their application:
periodic and routine physical exams, careful anamnesis with evaluation of risk factors, attention to adequate diet, physical activity and healthy lifestyle, vitamins and nutritional integrators, specific prevention for the individual.
Thanks to anamnesis and examination, it is possible to make prescriptions for illness treatment and/or prevention.

Persol, a name, a history

Quality and craftsmanship have been an essential part of the history and success of Persol (Luxottica Group,Milan, Italy) since the 1920s. Behind every Persol eyewear model there is a selection of materials, planning, and accurate production, which goes from the most sophisticated manual workmanship to the latest technologies. And its great tradition is promptly cited, picked up and modernized in the collections.
The novelties in the Suprema and Design collections are marked by the rediscovery of thickened acetate, a manufacturing process of the ’30s which was a Persol hallmark. It enables the extension of the frame’s volumes, creating a play on thicknesses between front and temples.
In design model PO2918S we find evolved lines and marked feminine character. The thickened acetate is played on the front, profiled inside the slightly embedded lenses, and in the snaky, extended temples. The maxi 10mm flex arrow appliqué and the temples with two little cylinders in metal are the distinctive features of an outstanding model, in step with the revived vintage trends.

New concepts for prescription glasses and sunglasses

Linkskin is eyewear which weighs under 10 grams (without lenses) and is constructed without welding, screws or hinges thanks toan eco-compatible production process which respect environmental protection standards.
Linkskin uses recycled plastic and stainless steel components to reduce environmental impact. The proof of the company’s commitment to the “green” cause are the requests for Ecolabel Blue Angel (Germany), Eco Mark (Japan) and Green Label (Singapore) certification.
The front is milled from an 0,8mm sheet obtained from the extrusion of recycled polycarbonate pellets, while the temples come form the injection of the same material.
The “Buckle Lock” mechanism (patent pending) enables the bi-forked metal temple tip to slip into the special groove in the plastic temple, blocking it without the use of screw or welding.
The stainless steel bar supporting the structure of the recycled plastic front also hooks onto it by use of a special procedure called “Button Lock”, also awaiting patent. It is a simple, innovative method which firmly blocks the two components of the eyewear by means of a little “button”.

Health Sight Counselling: an integrated method for a healthy sight 2/2

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Although vision care is mainly focussed on ocular health, even non-ocular factors can be relevant.
Eyes make part of the body. If any organ is affected by a disease, this may have an effect on the eyes; vice-versa, ocular anomalies can suggest a malfunction of other parts of the body.
The optical device, with its designs and corrections available for special lenses, carries out an important role in vision care, acting on both the present ocular health and the long-term one.
As well as the individual is concerned about his/her own sight, the eyecare professional is the only one who can not only provide his patients with the right correction, but also advise them how to optimise and protect their own vision.
With the Healty Sight Counselling, the eyecare professional’s role is not limited to the prescription and supply of lenses, but extends to vision care and prevention.
